Driving down from Northern California we wanted to stop for some tacos in Santa Barbara and this seemed to be the recommended spot. They have a two car parking lot, otherwise you can park on the street. There was a line out the door when we arrived on a Saturday around 2pm. Cash only! The people in front of us seemed to have been here before and were getting the super rica especial (roasted chili pasilla, cheese and marinated pork on 3 corn tortillas) so I ordered one of those as well as 2 tacos alambre de filete. I've never had tacos that are made this style before. I am used to corn tortillas with the toppings. These tacos have the corn tortillas flat on the plate with the toppings spread across. The corn tortillas are made fresh and they were super tasty. Toasted with a slight sweet corn flavor. The super rica especial was a really good blend of ingredients and very savory. Wish the pork was a little crispier. The tacos alambre de filete were also something I've never seen. They were large cubes of tri tip. They were a little too big in my opinion and could have used a harder sear but they were very juicy and not dry at all. They give you two cups for salsa per person and you can go fill up the salsas yourself by the pick up window. Both the red and green sauces were good and had a nice amount of spice. There was a lady in front of us who said she has been coming here for 10 years and you can tell this place is well established. Most people in line seemed to be regulars in fact. They chit chatted a bit with the person taking the orders who reminded me so much of my grandpa who had a hamburger stand. He took orders by paper and used a calculator to add up your cost. It definitely gave a good vibe and he was very nice. The food was good, the prices were a little high for my liking and it could use a little more finesse for the points I mentioned above. Glad we tried it, but the hunt for Santa Barbara tacos will go on for us.

Yum!!! Been here a few times and it's always great, no matter what's ordered. Chile relleno in cream sauce was amazing, as was the cafe de ollo, a cinnamon cacao coffee. Sitting outside under the gorgeous giant palms and historic trees is lovely.

You can't throw a rock in California without hitting a taco stand. So what makes this one stand out? The answer is simple, and the proof is in the pudding. The food is made with care, attention to detail and quality ingredients. You know when you leave that taco stand after killing 4 or 20 tacos and you get that feeling in your stomach like the ghost of that cow or pig is conjuring up something sinister for your colon? Well, you'll never get that here. What you will get is as close as a taco can get you to heaven on Earth. The awesome news is that there's more than tacos... The chef constantly updates the menu based on the season and the weather. Cold outside? Come in for a hot bowl of Mexican caldo, or beans or some bomb ass tacos.

I love this place been coming here since I was eight. Allegedly Julia Child's favorite Mexican restaurant. Get the queso it's so good. The tortillas are to die for.
